Tech Safety Lines Debuts NFPA-Certified MCD® Fire Escape System at FDIC 2026 to Enthusiastic Response from Fire Departments Nationwide
Carrollton, Texas (May 7, 2026) - Tech Safety Lines (TSL) officially launched its newly NFPA-certified MCD® Fire Escape System at this year's FDIC International, where it was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the fire departments in attendance. First responders and fire service professionals from across the country had the opportunity to experience the technology firsthand, and the response was resoundingly positive — validating what TSL has worked toward for more than two decades.
The NFPA certification marks a landmark achievement for TSL, confirming that the MCD® Fire Escape System meets the National Fire Protection Association's rigorous compliance standards. Fire departments nationwide can now officially adopt and deploy the system for both self-rescue and assisted rescue in emergency situations, knowing it carries the certification their procurement processes require.
TSL's journey to this moment began on September 11, 2001, when CEO Diane Waghorne watched the tragic events unfold and recognized a critical gap — there were simply no reliable descent options for those trapped in the buildings. Three weeks later, she traveled to meet with a military manufacturer to explore bringing the Military Compact Descender to the Dallas Fire Department and SWAT. She ultimately acquired the patent for the proven Military Compact Descender® (MCD®) and spent the years that followed guiding its evolution from military technology into civilian emergency response applications — laying the foundation for Tech Safety Lines.
"From the beginning, our goal has been to save lives," said Waghorne. "Earning NFPA certification is a validation of everything we've worked for, and a tribute to the firefighters who put their lives on the line every day. Launching at FDIC and seeing the fire service community's reaction firsthand made this milestone even more meaningful. This certification gives firefighters access to the safest, most reliable equipment when seconds matter most."
Built for Firefighters: Key Advantages of the MCD® Fire Escape System
The MCD® Fire Escape System was engineered from the ground up with the demands of active firefighting in mind. Every design decision prioritizes speed, reliability, and performance under extreme conditions:
- Extreme Heat Resistance — The system's rope is rated to withstand temperatures up to 932°F, providing critical protection in the high-heat environments firefighters face on the fireground.
- Exceptional Strength — With a minimum breaking strength of 6,700 lb., the MCD® Fire Escape System delivers the structural integrity required for life-safety applications.
- Ultralight at Any Length — The complete 50 ft. kit weighs just 2.5- 2.7 lbs., meaning firefighters gain a full self-rescue capability without meaningfully adding to the load they already carry.
- Compact, Pocket-Ready Design — The entire system fits directly into a standard firefighter pant pocket, ensuring it is always on the firefighter and immediately accessible — no extra gear, no added bulk.
- Magnetic Quick-Access Bag — A magnetic bag closure allows for rapid, one-motion deployment when seconds count, eliminating fumbling or delays at the moment of need.
- Fully Glove-Compatible — Every component of the kit is designed to be accessed and operated while wearing firefighting gloves, so dexterity limitations never compromise a rescue.
- Versatile Connection Options — The system accommodates both carabiner and stealth hook connections, giving firefighters the flexibility to deploy in whatever configuration best fits the situation.
Together, these features make the MCD® Fire Escape System not just NFPA-compliant, but purpose-built for the realities of modern firefighting — where reliability, speed, and ease of use can mean the difference between life and death.
With the certification now in hand and a strong debut at FDIC behind them, TSL is positioned to bring the MCD® Fire Escape System to fire departments across the country.
