This enhanced version now meets the newest ANSI Z359.9 standard and has undergone rigorous third-party testing by UL and TÜV SÜD, ensuring compliance with both ANSI and CE standards up to an impressive height of 210 meters.

With over 50,000 SRK-15® kits sold globally, this trusted rescue solution is used by workers across more than 35 countries. The recent improvements highlight Tech Safety Lines' ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, and reliability.

Key Features of the SRK-15® Micro Rescue Kit:

Military Compact Descender™ (MCD): Enables both self-rescue and assisted rescue operations.

Customization Options: Kits can be tailored in terms of rope length and packaging.

The SRK-15® includes the Military Compact Descender™, a personal lowering device. The SRK-15® micro rescue kit ensures an independent, immediate, and adaptable evacuation and self-rescue capability. This versatile rescue kit can also be paired with a StepWise® Fall Arrest Lanyard to perform a self-rescue after a fall. Additionally, the SRK-15® micro rescue kit can be inverted and used for an assisted rescue. During ladder rescues, the rescuer can perform a hands-free, active assisted rescue while maintaining three points of contact.

At Tech Safety Lines, we help our clients meet the latest safety and training standards for their industry. We monitor changes to the standards, manage our student’s training certifications, and notify them when it is time for renewal. Employers can always contact TSL to enquire about an employee’s training status.

Here in the U.S, we are seeing many wind industry leaders adopt the Global Wind Organization (GWO) training standards. The goal of GWO is to streamline the training quality and validity of those working in wind power worldwide.

Tech Safety Lines offers the majority of the GWO curriculum at our state-of-the-art 40,000 sq. ft. training facilities in Dallas, TX. Students can be certified for Basic Safety Training, Advanced Rescue Training, Enhanced First Aid, Basic Technical Training, Control of Hazardous Energies, Slinger Signaler, and Blade Repair, as well as refresher courses.

Individuals maintain their GWO certifications via WINDA, the global database designed for verifying a person’s training status. It allows the certification to be portable and recognized both locally and internationally.

It is important to note that GWO requires wind technicians complete their recertification for the varying modules prior to the expiration dates listed on their WINDA ID. Below we have listed the duration of a training certification for each GWO training module offered at TSL.

Blade repair technicians play an extremely crucial role in the wind industry. They are responsible for maintaining the efficiency and longevity of wind turbine blades and can work in various settings, including onshore, offshore, and blade factories. As wind energy becomes more prominent in the energy industry, the need for wind turbine blade maintenance is expected to increase.

Blade Repair Technicians are specialized professionals entrusted with the responsibility of inspecting, identifying, and repairing any defects or damage on a wind turbine blade. This can include conducting visual inspections of the blades, using specialized tools, and performing necessary repair work and replacements. Their job can consist of repairing cracks, replacing the blades, and performing preventative maintenance like cleaning and applying protective sealants. 

Because the role is so physically demanding, blade repair technicians should be technically skilled and in good physical condition in order to remain safe while working at extreme heights. In addition to these characteristics, blade repair technicians should be skilled communicators and detail-oriented individuals.

Becoming a Technician: Requirements for Success

Because of their crucial role in ensuring the efficiency of wind turbines, blade repair technicians must meet multiple requirements to ensure the safety and success of themselves and their team members. 

Firstly, aspiring technicians should complete an Intro to Blade Repair Course or the GWO blade repair training program. Many job sites in the industry require technicians to be certified in these safety and technical courses before beginning work on a turbine. Siemens Gamesa now requires all blade technicians on their sites to either obtain their GWO Blade Repair certification or the Siemens Blade B certification. These specialized course materials ensures potential technicians have the foundational knowledge and skills to perform successful repairs and replacements. 

Another skill that aspiring technicians should be well-versed in is blade repair techniques. There are numerous types of blade repair protocols, such as lighting strike repairs, trailing edge repairs, and other erosion repair techniques. A good technician should be able to identify damage and determine the most appropriate course of action for repairing the blade.

Additionally, they should be trained to understand the nuances of composite materials, such as fiberglass. A detailed understanding of these types of materials helps the repair technician properly assess the damage and can aid them in choosing the proper procedure to fix the blade safely. 

Renewable energy, specifically in the wind energy industry, is steadily growing and developing, paving the way for individuals seeking career opportunities as blade repair technicians. The number of wind farms being established globally is increasing, leading to higher demand for skilled individuals in the maintenance and repair of wind turbine blades. 

Blade repair is a good option for those looking for a career with high growth potential. After gaining a few years of real-world experience, technicians can set themselves up to advance into higher-level positions, such as supervisors and team leads. Experienced technicians can even work their way into specialized blade repairs for severe damage and offshore projects. 

Overall, becoming a blade repair technician is a career that requires a specialized skillset to ensure proper safety and efficiency. It also allows room for growth and career advancement as more countries transition toward more advanced and sustainable energy sources.

Kyle effectively stays updated on the curriculum being taught and industry trends by actively networking with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from the training and engineering sectors. This ensures that the technicians under his guidance receive the latest and most relevant information pertinent to the industry's current landscape. 

Moreover, Kyle is currently sharing his technical training expertise by participating in the Global Wind Organisation’s (GWO) Hand Tools and Dropped Objects Awareness Training (HTDO) Project. He will conduct a pilot test training for GWO to gain insight into the revised GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT), Working at Heights (WaH), and Manual Handling (MaH) standards. Kyle is committed to participating in every GWO project that comes his way, aiming to contribute to GWO's mission of fostering an injury-free wind work environment.

How does your nominee gather feedback and use it for continuous improvement?

Kyle employs multiple feedback mechanisms to gather input from his classes. He administers course surveys at the culmination of each GWO module, providing all students with an opportunity to offer their insights. By analyzing the real-time data gleaned from these surveys, he discerns areas warranting improvement as well as the curriculum's strengths.

Moreover, Kyle fosters interactive engagement through round table discussions held at the conclusion of every class. These sessions afford students the chance for face-to-face dialogue, wherein they reflect on their learning experiences, express their preferences, and discuss practical applications of acquired knowledge. Kyle ensures that the feedback received from students is effectively communicated to the broader TSL team, fostering an environment of ongoing education and refinement within the program. This collaborative approach underscores Kyle's commitment to continuous improvement and student-centered learning. 

Please give an example of a difficult training situation where the nominee involved participants successfully.

In a challenging training scenario, Kyle demonstrated exceptional skill in managing a diverse group of participants originating from various regions, including West Africa, Mexico, the USA, and Europe. Overcoming the inherent language barriers demanded a strategic approach. By deliberately slowing the pace and prioritizing hands-on learning, Kyle effectively conveyed the training material, ensuring comprehensive understanding among all participants.

Kyle's professional journey, rooted in prior experiences as a wind technician, lends a distinctive and personalized dimension to our wind industry training programs. Many students enrolled in these programs have specialized training needs tailored to their specific working environments. Leveraging his deep understanding of their working conditions, Kyle can envision the scenarios students encounter in the field. Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Waghorne.

Diane, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
9/11 changed my life. As I watched the twin towers crumble and realized that the people who had been trapped in the buildings truly had no way to be rescued, I started thinking that there should be a solution that could save lives at heights. I vowed that day to bring something positive out of that tragedy.

I thought about how many thousands of people go to work and risk their lives every day on elevated platforms, often hundreds of feet in the air on wind turbines, cell towers, aerial lifts and construction sites. All of them should have a rescue system and proper training to quickly, safely descend to the ground in an emergency.

I knew that someone had to create something to give people a safe way to get down to the ground in situations like this. And then, I decided that someone might as well be me.

So, in 2002, I went from being a stay-at-home mom to an entrepreneur and CEO of a company that specializes in providing rescue systems and training for people who work at height. That was 17 years and three patents ago, and now Tech Safety Lines’ products are in 22 countries, including the United States, Canada, Europe and Africa. I sleep better at night knowing that thousands of workers are now safer because they wear our equipment every day.
