Mayor's Spotlight Award | Tech Safety Lines

Tech Safety Lines, a global leader in life-saving safety training and equipment for industries including wind energy, construction, and telecommunications, has been honored as the first-ever recipient of the Mayor’s Spotlight Award. CEO Diane Waghorne accepted the prestigious award on behalf of the company during a ceremony at City Hall, where Mayor Steve Babick delivered a keynote address highlighting Tech Safety Lines’ industry leadership and community contributions.

The Mayor’s Spotlight Award, part of Carrollton’s Business Retention & Industry Development Program, was established to recognize exemplary local businesses that drive innovation, growth, and excellence while enhancing the community’s prosperity. This award celebrates companies that embody Carrollton’s vision of a thriving business ecosystem and a strong, connected community.

Mayor Babick lauded Tech Safety Lines for its global impact on safety training and equipment while remaining deeply engaged with local initiatives. Since establishing its Carrollton headquarters in 2012, Tech Safety Lines has set international standards for fall protection and rescue training. The company also demonstrates its commitment to public safety by offering state-of-the-art training facilities free of charge to local first responders for skill development and internal exercises.

Diane Waghorne, the driving force behind Tech Safety Lines’ innovation and success for more than two decades, delivered a heartfelt speech. “Receiving the inaugural Mayor’s Spotlight Award is a tremendous honor,” Waghorne remarked. “Carrollton has been an integral part of our journey, providing a supportive and dynamic environment that aligns with our mission to protect lives. The Global Wind Organization aims to streamline the training of wind technicians globally to create a stronger and safer workforce. As GWO has expanded into the United States, Tech Safety Lines is committed to contribute to this effort. By providing GWO certified training, Tech Safety Lines gives customers a sense of comfort in terms of adherence to EHS plans and overall safety targets. TSL has updated the SPARK (Small Package Assisted Rescue Kit) with a new 4:1 pulley system. Our product enhancements will provide customers with greater efficiency when they need it most.

Rescue considerations when designing the SPARK include hub/blade extractions, ladder/platform operations, and victim access/rescue from the top of the nacelle. Basic components of the SPARK include a self-contained 4:1 pulley system (i.e. no assembly required), adjustable victim strap, anchor materials, and connective hardware.

The judges were hugely impressed with all of the entries’ high quality, however, one company stood out, with the judges saying, “it’s clear they’re the leader, delivering high-quality training in an innovative and inclusive way that’s geared to the technician’s needs.”

Tech Safety Lines Wins Award for Best GWO Training Program in the Americas

We are ecstatic to announce that our very own Kyle Henry has been nominated for GWO Instructor of the Year 2024.

Please give examples of how your nominee stays updated in teaching and technical development, such as participation at conferences, workshops, pilots or other relevant initiatives?

Kyle effectively stays updated on the curriculum being taught and industry trends by actively networking with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) from the training and engineering sectors. This ensures that the technicians under his guidance receive the latest and most relevant information pertinent to the industry's current landscape. 

Moreover, Kyle is currently sharing his technical training expertise by participating in the Global Wind Organisation’s (GWO) Hand Tools and Dropped Objects Awareness Training (HTDO) Project. He will conduct a pilot test training for GWO to gain insight into the revised GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT), Working at Heights (WaH), and Manual Handling (MaH) standards. Kyle employs multiple feedback mechanisms to gather input from his classes. He administers course surveys at the culmination of each GWO module, providing all students with an opportunity to offer their insights. By analyzing the real-time data gleaned from these surveys, he discerns areas warranting improvement as well as the curriculum's strengths.

Moreover, Kyle fosters interactive engagement through round table discussions held at the conclusion of every class. These sessions afford students the chance for face-to-face dialogue, wherein they reflect on their learning experiences, express their preferences, and discuss practical applications of acquired knowledge. Kyle ensures that the feedback received from students is effectively communicated to the broader TSL team, fostering an environment of ongoing education and refinement within the program. Tech Safety Lines | GWO Certification Duration

At Tech Safety Lines, we help our clients meet the latest safety and training standards for their industry. We monitor changes to the standards, manage our student’s training certifications, and notify them when it is time for renewal. Employers can always contact TSL to enquire about an employee’s training status.

Here in the U.S, we are seeing many wind industry leaders adopt the Global Wind Organization (GWO) training standards. The goal of GWO is to streamline the training quality and validity of those working in wind power worldwide.

Tech Safety Lines offers the majority of the GWO curriculum at our state-of-the-art 40,000 sq. ft. training facilities in Dallas, TX. Students can be certified for Basic Safety Training, Advanced Rescue Training, Enhanced First Aid, Basic Technical Training, Control of Hazardous Energies, Slinger Signaler, and Blade Repair, as well as refresher courses.

Individuals maintain their GWO certifications via WINDA, the global database designed for verifying a person’s training status. It allows the certification to be portable and recognized both locally and internationally.

It is important to note that GWO requires wind technicians complete their recertification for the varying modules prior to the expiration dates listed on their WINDA ID. Below we have listed the duration of a training certification for each GWO training module offered at TSL.
