GWO: Basic Safety Training
Tech Safety Lines is the proud recipient of the GWO Training Company of the Year award across North and South America.
The Global Wind Organization Basic Safety Training (GWO-BST) course is the introductory safety training standard to work on wind turbines. The 4 BST modules (Working At Heights, First Aid, Manual Handling, and Fire Awareness) will be taught in both theoretical and practical settings and will enable students to learn the basic safety and emergency procedures for working at height.
At TSL, you will also be certified to use the SRK-15 and will be issued a TSL wallet card. Unauthorized training voids all warranties on TSL equipment, express and implied.
Students can combine their GWO training with TSL Equipment Certifications, OSHA Certifications, 3S Lift certification, and American Heart Association certification. Contact us for more information and visit the TSL GWO Hub to learn more about TSL's award-winning GWO program.
Course Duration: 4 Days
Price: $2,000 per student (volume discounts available)
Validation: 24 months
Pre-Requisite: Be WINDA registered before arriving for the course
This globally recognized certification acknowledges that students who complete this course will exhibit the skills necessary to work safely and respond appropriately to emergency situations. There are 4 modules included in the BST onshore course.
Working at Heights training prepares students to safely perform work at heights, to properly use personal protective equipment, and prepares them with the basic skill set to fully implement a rescue from heights in a remote turbine environment.
Working at Heights Training | Student understanding includes the demonstrated ability to:
- Correctly deploy an evacuation device
- Correctly inspect equipment pre-use, properly service and store equipment, and to properly fit PPE
- Understand the dangers and risks associated with working at heights in the WTG environment
- Properly assess rescue situations and efficiently deploy proper rescue equipment in the WTG environment
- Correctly use relevant PPE, identify anchor points, and proper ladder use protocol
- Correctly identify PPE including those with standard European/Global insignia
In accordance with GWO First Aid training through analytical and practical training, Basic Safety Training participants will learn how to safely administer effective first aid while in the wind turbine generator (WTG) or industry environment. Skills acquired will include the ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
Participants will be able to demonstrate understanding, clarity, and competence as related to delivering first aid effectively and in accordance with: the legislative requirements for their specific geographic location, the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines, and the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) hereunder the European Resuscitation Council (ERC).
First Aid | Student understanding includes the demonstrated ability to:
- Correctly use the Secondary Survey
- Correctly use first-aid equipment when administering first aid
- Identify and explain normal bodily function, normal indications and presentation, and symptoms of both serious and minor bodily illness and injury
- Understand and properly execute the correct sequence and progression of emergency management stages in a WTG environment
- Properly use and implement lifesaving first aid using the Primary Survey “C” A-B-C and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
Manual Handling comprises proper ergonomic techniques that can be used in a variety of scenarios in the wind turbine industry and environment. With a focus on safe implementation, these techniques are the foundation from which students can innovate solutions as well as draw from for planning.
Manual Handling | Student understanding includes the demonstrated ability to:
- Understand safe and correct practice of Manual Handling and equipment
- Identify indications of injuries related to improper Manual Handling technique
- Perform risk reduction techniques
- Identify any aspect of a job task that might increase the risk of injury
- Carry out tasks safely and in line with the legislative requirements relevant to the geographic location
- Problem solve
Analytical and practical Fire Awareness training gives students the basic knowledge and skill set to: make proper assessments when evaluating fires, prevent fires, properly conduct an evacuation and ensure all are accounted for in the event of a fire that is uncontrollable. If conditions are deemed safe, one should be able to effectively extinguish a fire using commonly found, handheld fire fighting equipment.
Fire Awareness Training | Student understanding includes the demonstrated ability to:
- Identify any sign of a fire in a wind turbine environment
- Implement contingency plans in a wind turbine environment, including smoke detection and emergency escape procedures
- Take correct action upon discovering a fire
- Understand the causes of fires in wind turbines and the associated dangers
- Understand the development and spread of fire
