- Bolted Connection Fundamentals – Bolt grades, proper gasket selection, and achieving clamping force to mitigate shear loading
- Bolting Methods & Techniques – Proper installation, tightening sequences, pressure flange bolting, and the +4 method

- At the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify hazards associated with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic torque/tension tools
- Identify hazards associated with torque/tension applications
- Generic setup and use of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic torque tools
- Generic setup and use of hydraulic tension tools
- Proper lubrication application to bolts used for torquing.
- Understand how to read pressure conversion charts
- Safe handling and storage of tooling and equipment involved in torque/tension applications
- Generic bolting patterns (+4 method)
- Understand proper bolting technique for pressure flanges
- Identify proper gasket needed in pressure vessel bolting application
- Generic Mechanical, Pressure Vessel, and Structural bolting
- Identify bolt grades and use
- Inspect and identify improper bolting and failures
- Understand “crosstalk” and how it effects bolt pre-load
- Understand how proper bolting is used to achieve clamping force and mitigate shear loading
